Mid Argyll Camera Club
2019 Frank Walton club entry
Club entry for the Frank Walton Competition, judged on Thursday 14th March 2019 by Neil MacGregor (Kirkintilloch) at the Three Villages Hall in Arrochar.
Scores: Mid Argyll CC 166, Cowal CC 166, Peninsula CC (Cove) 163, Oban Photographic Club 163, Helensburgh Digital Photography Club 156, Campbeltown CC 152, Bute Photographic Society 150, Carradale CC 150, Three Villages CC 150. Each club entered 10 images, so maximum score was 200.
The trophy was donated in 1981 by Frank Walton, the photographer who had the camera shop in Oban, for a new annual competition between Argyll & Bute clubs. In 1981 MACC won against Oban and Mull, with 25 colour slides per club. The clubs take turns to organise the event in their home towns. The next competition will be held in Dunoon in March 2020. The club won for the 1st time in 25 years.
Cowal and Mid Argyll both scored the same total but Mid Argyll was declared the winner, having entered the highest scoring individual image.
The top image was “In Safe Hands” Verina Litster’s photo of a new born baby held by her/his fireman father in his helmet. Club competition secretary Verina also scored joint second highest with “Dreich Night in Glasgow”. And one of the joint third best scores was by Helen Phillips with “Cafe Life”.
